Chongqing Sunac Hotel Group

The project of Chongqing Sunac Hotel Group includes: a six-star hotel with 80 guest rooms covering an area of 7.2 hectare, a five-star hotel with 300 guest rooms covering an area of 5 hectare, a theme hotel with 300 guest rooms, a 10000m² conference center, a lake show and a bar street. The site is surrounded by water in all directions. The east, west and north side is the original river channel. The south is a newly excavated artificial lake. Beyond the south of the lake is a planned outdoor theme park. The ancient Feixue Temple on the north is an important contextual clue and resource for the project.

The concept of site planning is inspired by town planning theory in Bayu culture and Feng Shui theory. Especially for the six-star hotel, the planning and design idea refer to the shape of the fishing city and the ancient town in Bayu. The planning creates waterscape, builds a platform to form the "power", opens the building up to form a "shape", combining the ancestor totem worship of the ancient Bayu culture with the natural environment planning.

The six-star hotel is the key part of the whole project. The main facilities include the hotel lobby, service facilities, 80 guest rooms, the presidential suite, 10 two-bedroom villa suites and three three-bedroom villa suites. The six-star hotel is built on the platform stacked up by the excavation of the lake. The building is arranged along three different heights. Each villa has great views, views to the lake or to the north ancient temple. The lobby and public facilities are located on the highest floor of the platform, forming the structural axis of the entire site planning. In order to increase the sight depth of lobby space, the south lake view makes a boundless connection with a series of infinity mirror-like pools, outdoor swimming pool and waterscape. The exaggerated roof form creates the climax of the entire building group, noble and mysterious. The SPA area is designed on a small island on the lake. Passing through two traditional memorial gates, guests are led into the front courtyard of hotel lobby. The open space is functionally integrated with the entire planned scene transformation, creating a cultural ritual sense.

The five-star hotel lobby faces the southwest long axis of the lake, thus increases the sight depth of the public space, and creates spatial openness with narrow site conditions. The theme hotel design is related to the theme park. The layout of guest room considers the sight contact with the theme park and the Great Lake show. The design also brings in the traditional memorial gate, gazebo, dock and other cultural features. The planning aims to dig into the traditional Bayu culture from the local town and architecture, and provide the guests a unique local culture experience.
